Biography
Khalia D. Shaw
Khalia Shaw is a nonprofit development and communications strategist with over 10 years of experience in institutional advancement. Recently relocated to her hometown of Cleveland, OH, Khalia currently serves with The Cleveland Orchestra, where she manages prospect development for a team of chief fundraisers and major gift officers.
In addition to her professional role, Khalia is deeply engaged in her community, serving on the advisory boards of Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School, her alma mater, and Fairfax Recreation Center in her childhood neighborhood. As an executive officer on both boards, she brings a commitment to fostering community connections and advancing educational and recreational resources for future generations.
Now entering her third year with The Khalia Effect—a consulting business dedicated to empowering small nonprofit leaders—Khalia is looking forward to expanding her team to include strategic partners who can broaden her impact and support. Her goal remains the same: to equip nonprofits of all sizes with the tools, knowledge, and relationships needed to drive their missions forward and build stronger communities.
Khalia’s expertise spans developing inclusive, data-driven fundraising and communications strategies that support the ambitious goals of nonprofit leaders, philanthropists, and C-suite executives. She has helped drive multi-million and multi-billion-dollar fundraising campaigns, tailoring her approach to ensure every organization has access to resources that can create lasting impact.
Her passion for equity and inclusion is reflected in her work, as well as in her volunteer service in spaces that promote empathy and peace through arts and culture. When she’s not helping nonprofits thrive, Khalia enjoys spending time with family and friends, and exploring the works of thought-provoking authors and cultural icons like James Baldwin, J. California Cooper, Amanda Gorman, and Nikki Giovanni. She’s also a proud mother of an adult college student studying stage management at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.
